Residual antimicrobial agents in food originating from animals
2021, Trends in Food Science and TechnologyCitation Excerpt :Humans can thus acquire antibiotic resistant bacteria following consumption of poultry, livestock, and fish products. Antibiotic resistance against human pathogens is now a major global public health issue (Martínez-Martínez & Calvo, 2010). There is an evident association between antibiotic use in animals and the development of resistance in human pathogens as was previously reported (Hoelzer et al., 2017; Landers et al., 2012; Wegener, 2012).
Phenotypic characterization of multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains isolated from pediatric patients associated to biofilm formation
2015, Microbiological ResearchCitation Excerpt :Carbapenems are the antibiotics of choice for treating P. aeruginosa infections. In recent years, an increase (Pitout et al., 2008; Rodríguez et al., 2010; Wirth et al., 2009; Kumar et al., 2012) in MDR P. aeruginosa strains has been observed in several countries, such as Africa, Europe, México, Central and South America, turning this bacterium into a public-health problem of great interest (Tsakris et al., 2009; Martínez-Martínez and Calvo, 2010; Fariñas and Martínez-Martínez, 2013). This study revealed 18 profiles of multiresistance among the 58 P. aeruginosa strains; in addition, one predominant profile was observed in 37.93% of all strains.
